Social Media Plugin Overload

Do we really need so many social media plugins on this site?

Tweet, Facebook Like, General one?

I mean do we really following this stuff on twitter and FB?

It really helps to slow things down on a SAM using OWB.

I'm talking about the row imediatly below this post, I recon they about a megabyte of javascript and over download to the page total, and they revent scrolling propelry etc till they are done.

If this were a media related site I would undertstand it but it a small niche coding platform.

Re: Social Media Plugin Overload

@broadblues

It's one plugin known as AddThis, and it's designed to let people choose whichever social media services they choose. I personally have no issue with it being here, although I've never once felt the need to "share" anything on this site via social media.

Okay looking at the page src

Okay looking at the page src I see you are right to say it one plugin at the drupal level, but it clearly draws in code from a lot of other sub plugins, as it renders three complete buttons and some composute one with options on it.

The first 100k of network has display the page and then another 2Mb of network traffic is required to display the plugins, it really slows things down on my SAM. It's not a deal breaker if people really are using it but if they aren't it would life easier for some I think.

If I only want to read I can use AWeb and skip the code, but I can't post from AWeb on this site.

/me slides a copy of IBrowse into the thread.... ;)

What social media buttons? I don't see any stinking
social media buttons. And OS4Coding loads nice and
quick in IBrowse.

:D
