Virtual gadget quirks...

While fiddling around with AISSview I found some strange effects with the main view/work area, which is in itself an virtual gadget. Picture 1 shows the virtual area without scroll bar (all images fit into the visible area), picture 2 shows the virtual gadget with scroll bar (content bigger than visible area).
As seen in the pictures, there are problems with the inner border of the virtual gadget, grey/pattern area effects and "torn" fonts.

If I switch back to AmigaOS 4.1.0 (no Update 1 or 2), both versions look fine and as intended (see picture 3).

Is this a (Reaction) bug which was introduced with one of the OS updates or is it possible that this might be a AISSview code bug, which is by chance visible the first time after the OS updates? Any idea how to distinguish those two possibilities?

Can you list version numbers

Can you list version numbers of the gadget that works fine, and the version of the gadget that doesn't?

This might help to track down what changes were made and when.

IIRC virtual.gadget has hardly changed for years, but version numbers will definitely help here.

The shown "Image

The shown "Image Buttons"-VirtualGadget uses layout.gadget, button.gadget, space.gadget and virtual.gadget. Following your hint I tested different versions and - voilá - it *seems* to be a glitch in virtual.gadget! (Permutating/changing the versions of the other .gadgets has at least no visible effect, so my naive conclusion comes to down to virtual as the one...).

Vanilla OS4.1 features virtual.gadget 52.2 while OS4.1 Update 1 brings a newer virtual.gadget 53.5. The old virtual.gadget 52.2 works as expected, no strange grey/pattern/font effects.

OK, well that will help to narrow things down a bit. Thanks.

PS. How can this be reproduced? Does the AISSView on os4depot exhibit this behaviour?

Yes - it can be reproduced

Yes - it can be reproduced with both Dave's original AISSview 0.15 and my revised version 0.16. The latter is in the upload queue of OS4Depot ("aissviewer.lha"; the source code is already visible as "aissviewer-src.lha"). You might test my version, which should run out of the box with recent AISS 4.11 (while Dave's original is somewhat sensitive to the "TBImages:"-assign and might have problems with AISS newer than 4.6).

@rigo Simon, should I

@rigo

Simon,

should I re-post this virtual.gadget issue at forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz or is it already reported internally? I don't want to "spam" the now opened OS4 support forum with stuff that is already known/reported/whatever...

Regards,
Frank

Looks like it might be a plan. I haven't had a chance to look at this yet, oe even confirm it. At least on the support forums, it will obviously be more visible there, and allow the betatesters to see and confirm it.

Just for completeness, I'll repost here that this bug has been fixed in the latest virtual.gadget.
